Only in America do we say 'Git R Done'!

That is a phrase that has made several trips around the U.S. and has become the motto for NASCAR fans, camo-clad hunters, farm boys and several million other Americans who, like me, embrace their country upbringing. In fact, Git R Done was my class motto (there were only 7 girls and 11 boys; we got outvoted).

The twangy, plaid-wearing Larry the Cable Guy made the phrase famous on the Blue Collar Comedy tour and never looked back. His success has been astronomical, with two BCC videos, his own stand-up career, playing Tater in Cars 1 and 2 and most recently, a TV series the History Channel called "Only in America."  It debuted last year and just premiered its second season last week. Basically, Larry takes camera crews around to various rural outlets and gives viewers a firsthand look at American rural life. During this year's premiere episode, he visited Alaska to try to bust moose poachers and dropped in on Sarah Palin and her family.

The next episode, which is on tomorrow at 8 pm/C on the History Channel, will be in Wisconsin getting a better look at the dairy and beef industries. The online summary says that, "His first stop is the state's largest dairy farm, where he works every tough job that goes into each glass of milk." Additionally, I'm sure we can expect the usual LtCG antics and humor which will probably spice up the show.

I am not sure if I'll be able to tune in but I'm sure going to try! If ya'll watch, please leave me some comment love and let me know how it goes!

Until next time,

The Bachelor: Farm Style

We get about three channels from our bunny ear antennas here in Melbourne.  Fortunately, they come in very clear and one is the equivalent of NBC in the U.S.  The other night, we were flipping through and ran across this gem:

The Farmer Wants a Wife is a new twist on the bachelor/bachelorette - I've only seen one episode but so far it's hilarious. The picture from above is from the previous season; this season there are 5 or 6 guys farmers and 1 girl farmer.

Farmers host 2-3 dates of the opposite sex while engaging in normal agricultural activities. The episode I saw featured one male farmer taking two girls fishing and another farmer harvesting potatoes (by hand) with two girls in heels and leggings.  They looked cute but I'm sure you can appreciate the obvious humor.

I think this is a great twist on agritourism  - dig a potato, catch a fish and fall in love. Perfect.

Until next time,

Beets, The Office and Agritourism

Question: What is one of the best sitcoms of all time.
Answer: The Office

I love The Office - for Christmas, I received seasons 1-4 on DVD and spent the last four days watching them while I planned for the wedding. Obsessed, I know.

I was pleasantly surprised to hear some positive agriculture commentary during season four.  Dwight K. Schrute, owner of Schrute farms, highly supports agritourism.  Visitors to Schrute Farms get to see live table making demonstrations, drink beet wine and take tours of the fields and farms. While this farm doesn't really exist, props to NBC for promoting agrotourism.

For those of you who haven't seen the episode, below is the specific clip.

Obviously, Schrute farm is not the best example of agritourism but I thought it was awesome to see one of my favorite shows be up to date with agriculture.

Until next time,
